FLOW
Momentum, transfers and long connected movement.
Different people see different possibilities in the same piece of ground. We built a room that can learn from them.
PEOPLE × TERRAIN × MACHINES × LINES
Strange Loop is an experiment in adaptive physical space. Athletes encounter a shared landscape. They discover paths through it. The room learns from those discoveries. Between sessions, modular terrain can move—and the experiment begins again.
THE JAMBALAYA PRINCIPLE
Not the metaphorical melting pot, where difference disappears into something uniform.
Jambalaya works because the ingredients remain themselves. Each contributes something distinctive, and in proximity each changes the experience of everything around it.
Central Texas works a little like that. People arrive carrying different histories, trades, disciplines, cultures and ways of seeing. Some arrive deliberately. Some follow opportunity. Some arrive after storms, displacement or economic necessity.
Strange Loop is built on the same premise: difference is not decoration. Difference is machinery.
SAME TERRAIN. DIFFERENT POSSIBILITIES.
Put different athletes in the same room and they do not see the same room.
One sees a transition. Another sees a transfer. Someone sees an obstacle. Someone else sees a route nobody intended.
A line is an interpretation: a path through space that reveals challenges, builds momentum and develops proficiency.
VIEW THE ROOM AS:
Change the athlete and new lines appear. Let different disciplines watch one another and possibilities migrate between them.
The human population can expand the model's understanding of the room.THE PHYSICAL LOOP
Strange Loop isn't a rendering engine pretending to be architecture.
Modular physical terrain is designed to be moved by autonomous equipment between riding sessions. Riders encounter a static, verified environment. When the floor is cleared, the machines can rearrange the room.
Tomorrow doesn't have to look like today.
Momentum, transfers and long connected movement.
Reachable-but-unmastered problems arranged as curriculum.
Strange relationships. Cross-disciplinary interpretation encouraged.
People ride. Machines wait. Reconfiguration happens only on a cleared floor with the riding environment closed, verified and reopened after movement is complete.
THE ROOM PARTICIPATES
DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES. A SHARED EXPERIMENT.
Skateboard. BMX. WCMX. MTB. Inline. Scooter. Something we forgot to list.
See proposed configurations. Vote for what gets built. Follow families of terrain. Revisit old configurations. Opt into challenge sessions. Find lines nobody else saw.
The machine doesn't tell you how to ride. You tell the machine what it failed to imagine.
Strange Loop is designed around the possibility of activating underused industrial space without pretending the building has ceased to be an industrial asset.
The proposition is simple: create activity, attention and a memorable destination while exploring ways to offset carrying costs and make the property more interesting to future tenants.
You don't have to become a patron of skateboarding. You have to own an interesting building.
Robotics. AI. sensing. fabrication. computer vision. autonomous movement. human-machine interaction.
Strange Loop is a living demonstration environment in which technology has a job beyond looking impressive at a trade show. It changes a physical room—and people respond.
A robot moving another pallet is useful. A robot rebuilding tomorrow's playground is a story.
Strange Loop sits at an unusual intersection of human-computer interaction, information foraging, embodied cognition, adaptive systems, recreation, pedagogy and generative AI.
Predicted preference can be compared with observed behavior. Different disciplines can reveal different affordances in the same terrain. Novel lines can become new edges in the model.
The objective isn't merely successful traversal. It is productive discovery.
SCAMP treats skateboarding and BMX as keystone species within a broader ecosystem of recreation, fabrication, art, music, entrepreneurship and culture.
Strange Loop asks what happens when we stop treating those things as isolated amenities and start treating their relationships as infrastructure.
Don't preserve a culture under glass. Give it somewhere to evolve.
BORN IN CENTRAL TEXAS
Strange Loop is an expression of affection for a place that keeps changing because people keep arriving with something to contribute. Different disciplines. Different histories. Different ways of seeing the same piece of ground.
We don't want to average those differences away. We want to see what happens when they collide.
